Rihanna è una cantante e attrice barbadiana, prima artista della sua nazione a vincere un Grammy Award. Si è trasferita negli Stati Uniti d'America all'età di 16 anni grazie a un contratto discografico, sotto la guida di Evan Rogers.
Ha debuttato nel 2005 con l'album Music of the Sun e il singolo di successo Pon de Replay. Meno di un anno dopo ha pubblicato l'album A Girl Like Me e i singoli SOS e Unfaithful, dei quali il primo è diventato la sua prima numero uno nella Hot 100 statunitense. Nel 2007 ha consolidato la sua fama grazie all'album Good Girl Gone Bad, uscito in tre diverse edizioni, e i relativi singoli, tra cui Umbrella, è una tra le sue canzoni più note estratta dall'album. Dopo una parentesi con un album dalle sonorità cupe e maggiormente orientate all'R&B, Rated R, uscito nel 2009, portato al successo grazie ai singoli Russian Roulette e Rude Boy, l'anno successivo è tornata a incidere canzoni dallo stile dance pop per il suo quinto disco, Loud da cui vengono estratti i singoli di successo Only Girl (In The World) e S&M. Nel 2011 con l'album Talk That Talk mischia lo stile dei suoi album precedenti con alcuni stili inediti. L'album contiene il singolo di successo We Found Love, diventata una delle canzoni più note della cantante. Il pezzo prodotto da Calvin Harris trascorse 10 settimane in vetta alla classifica americana e 6 al top di quella britannica. Dal suo esordio fino ad oggi, Rihanna ha venduto 30 milioni di album e 60 milioni di singoli, facendola divenire una delle artiste con il maggior numero di vendite di tutti i tempi. Fin dagli esordi è legata all'etichetta discografica Def Jam. Nel 2011 debutta come stilista per Giorgio Armani, e inizia la carriera di attrice con la partecipazione al film Battleship (che però viene pubblicato nel 2012). Rihanna è l'artista più venduta dell'era digitale nel decennio 2000-2010 in fatto di singoli, avendo fissato con il brano Diamonds 12 canzoni alla vetta della Billboard hot 100, eguagliando il record di Madonna e The Supremes.
